Selection Criteria

Purpose

As the Triangle area continues to grow, the variety of housing options and solutions continues to expand. The purpose of the Residential Architecture Tour is to share the area’s best residential designs with as many people as possible. The tour exposes the value of an architect-led design as well as leading residential architects, contractors and consultants of the Triangle. Each year, the tour seeks to include the area’s variety of excellent residential projects – from urban infill & adaptive reuse to condominiums, historic preservation to new construction, renovations and additions.

Eligibility

Eligible entries must be authored by a member or associate member of AlA Triangle. Entries may have any location in the Triangle. An entrant may enter more than one submission. Entries may have a future date of completion, however, must have a Certificate of Occupancy at least one month prior to the Tour and be substantially completed by May 1 in order to be judged. All entries must be available for public tour on October 26 and 27, 2019.

Award Criteria

The 2019 Tour will call upon a curated jury to select which homes will be featured on the Tour. The curated jury will consist of a wide range of AIA member architects and affiliated residential design and construction professionals from within and beyond the Triangle region. The curated jury will use the following selection criteria:

● Overall quality of design

● Relationship to the site/site strategy

● Quality of craftsmanship & thoughtful detailing

● Innovative use of materials

● Sustainable features

● Spatial qualities such as light and views

● Storytelling (relationship/collaboration between the Architect & Homeowner)

Publicity & Exhibition

All award winners will be open for public tour on October 26 and 27, 2019. Furthermore, the AIA Triangle Residential Tour intends to publish the entries receiving awards on this web site and as much as possible throughout the year.
